You might encounter some common error messages when trying to access eBooks in the ProQuest eBook Central platform. This FAQ lists those error messages, and offers solutions. If this FAQ does not resolve your access issues, please contact librarysupport@torrens.edu.au.
ProQuest EPUB reader error message
ProQuest has recently changed their platform to default all eBook links to open in EPUB format (more info about this change). You may see the following error when using their EPUB reader.
Error message:
Solution: Sign out and sign in again
- On the error message, click Done
- In the book details page, in the top right of the page, click Sign Out
- Try accessing the book again
Other common ProQuest eBook Central error messages
Error message:
Cause 1: There was an issue authenticating your session with ProQuest.
Solutions:
- Clear your browser's cache then try again
- Use your browser's incognito/private mode
- Use a different browser (e.g. Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera)
- Find the book through the Reading List (see bottom of page for info)
Cause 2: A third-party software (e.g. Zotero) is applying a proxy redirect to the connection to ProQuest, resulting in an authentication error.
Solution: Turn off the proxy redirect (example for Zotero below - click the Don't Proxy This Site option) then try again
Error message:
Cause: This usually means that the link you have clicked is outdated. The eBook is likely still available through a different link.
Solutions: There are a few possible ways to obtain the updated link:
- Look in your MyLearn subject's Reading List, which can be accessed in the left-hand navigation panel, beneath the modules list, in the Additional category
- Search the library catalogue for the eBook
- Contact the library via Chat (available 9am-5pm Mon-Fri Sydney/Melbourne time) or email librarysupport@torrens.edu.au
