What is a permalink?

A permalink is a shareable link that always returns to the same ebook, article, video, database page, or catalogue record.

How do I get one?

On the item page, use the database’s Share, Permalink, or Copy link option. That’s the version designed to work later and off campus.

Why not copy the address bar?

Address‑bar URLs often include temporary session info and usually break later.

Will my link work off campus?

Yes—good permalinks prompt a quick Torrens/OpenAthens sign‑in, then open the item.

Fast check: try the link in a private window or on mobile data; if you see a Torrens login first, you’re set.

For most other platforms, use the database’s Share/Permalink tool or prefix the cleaned URL with the OpenAthens redirector:

https://go.openathens.net/redirector/torrens.edu.au?url=…

Which resources can I copy the URL from (no redirector)?

  • ArXiv.org (open access)
  • ProQuest eBook Central — copy when in reader.action view and ensure &c=UERG is present
  • WGSN — use the normal URL; do not add OpenAthens (you’ll sign in with email)
