eBooks books can have a restricted number of users that can read the book at the same time.

If everyone in your class is reading from the same book at the same time, only the first students to open the book will get access and the others will be asked to try again later.

Note: A copy is in use when someone has the book open on their screen - always shut the window that you were using to read the book after you have finished with it to ensure others can access the title.

Here are some methods to avoid being locked out of your eBook reading due to licence restrictions.

Method 1: Download the chapter before class

Before your class, download the reading that will be discussed and take it with you to class as a PDF.

Method 2: Classmate's copy

If your classmate is able to access the eBook in class, share screens with them.

Method 3: Access an older edition as a substitute

Many text books are updated regularly with new editions but very little content changes, use the steps below to access older editions of your text book from the Torrens Library catalogue.

  1. Search the library catalogue
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and tick Torrens University Library
  3. The earlier editions of the title will be listed at the bottom of the page, on the catalogue record for your original reading.
